Let's take a look at Gucci's 90 anniversary show shall we?
You wouldn't expect anything less than what you got at the Gucci show yesterday: colored fur, shiny fabrics, and leather of course. The colors were bright and laughed in the face of anyone who has that you have to wear boring colors in the fall and winter. Though I saw nothing in particular that I would wear except a snakeskin purse in a look I featured here, Gucci did not disappoint because it kept the traditional feel of the brand while livening it up at the same time. Even if you loved every look, but alas can't afford it you can still take inspiration from it. Wear bright shiny fabrics this spring and go for more slouchy flared pants that go with this season's theme of 70s fashion. Also never forget that classes touches like scarves can go a long way.

Burberry is berry dissapointing

So cheesy title I know, but seriously I was underwhelmed by this collection. Mainly because it was filled with not the usual Burberry plaid, but lumberjack plaid which I don't like. I did like some of the jackets which had a lot of volume to them and lots of bold black clasps on bold colored fabrics. There also wasn't a dress look in the whole collection. Very sportswear which might get the buyers, but not me. But hell my opinion doesn't matter because I'm broke! But please don't get me started on those hats.

Favorite Time of the Year: London Fashion Week

When MercedesLFW started following me on twitter I knew it was time to start getting excited about my favorite foreign city's fashion week. It's just getting warmed up of course so here are the top of the pops so far. Pictures from WWD.com.

Matthew Williamson:
I will never forgive H&M for preventing me from getting a piece from his collab with them. Oh well. Here's some new pieces to drool over that make one think of a tropical vacation in Russia with drag queens. Let me explain. Russia= all the fur in the collection, Williamson's traditional flower prints= tropical and drag queen= Feathers + Sequins. It basically equates to my idea of heaven.






Mulberry:
I like their bags the best (I own one from their collab with Target and I can currently be spotted toting it), but their clothes aren't half bad. This collection inspires me to say "Yes my dog is an accessory" and "Of course I can wear lavender in the fall." Merci beaucou. Also it seems literal animal prints are in. Birds all over your dress anyone?

It's not over till I say so

New York Fashion week might have ended, but I can still pick out some favorite looks!

Betsey Johnson has always been a favorite and this collection is actually better than her others. It's probably just because it has my favorite things, plaid, leopard print, and punk style and sometimes all together!





I love that Kate Spade has clothes now. I loved everything for this season, but it was just ok. It's hard to explain. I guess the best way to put it is that it's nothing new, but it is cute.


Rodarte continues the trend of white in the fall and polka dots! An added bonus: geometric prints



Oh Marc there you go again! Marc by Marc Jacobs proves that you don't have to comprise when it comes to more "sensible" attire and that you can always have fun. He included two types of animal print in his designs. Leopard print and literal ANIMAL print with lions on it. Cute.

New York Fashion Week Continues

Here are a few looks that I love from random collections I picked. One day I'll get all caught up! I don't know why my professors can't stop giving me homework so I can focus on NYFW.

Proenza Schouler:
Their look was very tribal to say the least. Not my favorite, but then again I'm not a huge fan of loud prints unless they're leopard.


Nanette Lepore:
Who says you can't wear white after labor day? The entire collection was reminiscent of a winter wonderland or at least figure skaters. I loved this because it was super girly which I love. It also shows that you can wear white tights after you leave childhood, which is something I'm going to try next season.




Anna Sui:
This season Anna Sui's usual 70s vibe fits in perfectly with every other collection since it's such a huge trend right now. She also mixed it up by throwing some Russian influence in there. Fur hats anyone?

Marc is a genius, but I already knew that

Looking at the first look from Marc Jacob's Fall/Winter 2011 collection I was a bit skeptical. It look really odd. But as I looked at the entire show I fell in love. Not only were there looks that I will recreate on the cheap (sequin skirt, knit top, and polka dot tights), but the whole thing was an evolution back in time. That really doesn't make any sense, but you can see influences from so many eras. First the 70s can be seen in the fabrics and patterns and then later on in the construction and use of lace you can see a bit of the Victorian era. He played with patterns, textures, and silhouettes like I've never seen.

This past week has been beyond busy. I had to put up my own section in my college newspaper. It was on Beauty. Look at the paper here.
But anyway I have so much to catch up on with New York Fashion Week. Here are some top picks from my favorite designers from the weekend shows.

Tory Burch:
Nice fall colors and sportswear sensibility come together to make a cool collection.




Victoria Beckham:
Everyone was tweeting about her collection the other day so I knew I had to look at it. I love how she gave new life to traditional fall colors.


Can I say how much I love that skirt?? It looks like something I bought this fall so it's nice to know it's in for next season too.

Diane von Furstenburg:
DVF made up a whole new palate of fall colors.


Carolina Herrera, my favorite (living sorry Cristobal) Spanish designer had a show today. Here's some looks from the collection:
Arizona Muse opened up the show setting the look that was sensible and classy.




Helen Mirren needs to wear that purple look on the red carpet sometime soon.
