Better than a car: Tom Ford's come-back collection revealed

So thanks to my favorite site: Fashionista.com and Harper's Bazaar UK I've been able to procure some pictures of Tom Ford's new eponymous women's collection. I've been waiting for this for a while. Tom Ford is a gorgeous man who makes even more gorgeous clothes. He is a true renaissance man having just directed his first movie a "Single Man." His choice of models breached the gaps between ages, races, and sizes. He's such a revolutionary. Beyonce opened the show and Stella Tenant closed it. The pieces were breath-taking and oh so him. Enjoy the pictures thanks to the lovely sites above.
P.S. if anyone wants to donate to the give to the "Get Danielle some fabulous new clothes" fund I'm accepting donations!

Stella, Beyonce, along with Daphne Guiness and Lauren Hutton model the clothes from his Spring/Summer 2011 collection:

My Top 10 Muses

I have probably covered this in several posts, but never have I combined all of these lovely ladies in one post before. Some are fictional just a warning:

10. Eddy and Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous
These two girls are super crazy. They dress over the top and are over the top. It goes to show you can wear whatever you want no matter what the occasion oh and drinking a glass of champagne first doesn't hurt.

9&8. Katie Fitch from Skins series two and Michelle Richardson from series one
My favorite British TV show of all time has some great dressers in the characters. I dyed my hair to look like Katie's before I came to college and I always love her pearls and leopard print pieces. I basically decided to wear my hair curly because of Michelle. Sometimes natural is best!

7. Coco Rocha
Coco has and always will be my favorite model. She is just absolutely stunning. She dresses so well off the catwalk, too. She dresses in a way that doesn't scream "I'm a supermodel look at me!" She's very down to earth, but she's not sloppy.

6. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy
She basically is living my dream. Started as a supermodel and is first lady of the most fashionable country on earth. She dresses like a woman in power and she is.

5. Kate Moss
Kate knows how to dress down and then dress up like no other. She also puts my scarf wearing to shame. Her influence over fashion can never be over-exaggerated. She put skinny jeans and high-waisted jeans on the map.

4. Lily Allen
Basically my favorite singer ever I have connected with Lily since she first stepped on the music scene. She's battled her weight like I do mine, but she looks fabulous no matter what her size. I mean someone who wears this out and about deserves to be admired.

3. Carrie Bradshaw
So I would rather be Carrie than dress like her most of the time, but you must admit she makes some pretty bold choices. Keep your fingers crossed that I too will be a writer in NYC with "all my money right where I can see it. Hanging in my closet."

2. Audrey Hepburn
My favorite actress and basically the reason I wear large sunglasses (other than the fact they protect your eyes from harmful UV rays) Audrey is a source of constant inspiration for me and the rest of the fashion world.

1. Blair Waldorf
If you read this blog with any regularity or know me at all you have knowledge of my obsession with Blair. I basically am her on so many levels and she (well Leighton Meester's costume designer) always amazes me each episode with a cute new outfit or idea. Headbands, tights, and skirts would not be my signature if I hadn't have started watching Gossip Girl.

Inspiration from unexpected sources: Teen Queens

I don't follow celebrities as fashion inspirations so I thought I'd take a look at some of the current teenage media darlings to see what their style has to say.

Celeb: Taylor Swift
Lesson: Black outfits can have brown accessories.
I did this a few weeks ago and loved the effect. It proves some rules are meant to be broken.

Celeb: Selena Gomez
Lesson: Black and navy blue look oh so good together/it doesn't take a seasoned professional fashionista to be able to break the rules.
Ok, so she's not my favorite actress or singer, but she is super cute and relatively close to my age. She also dresses classier than some teen stars I know. Keep it up girl!

Celeb: Demi Lovato
Lesson: Celebs wear patterned tights and so should you! Bonus lesson: You should get this dressy when you're on a plane ride. I promise it won't make it any less comfortable.
I'm not quite sure what's going on with Ms. Lovato right now, but whenever this candid of her was taken at LAX she sure looks fabulous to me!

Dressing Comfortably for Finals

Next week is finals week for my school and a few others. Many people dress in their pjs for this occasion, but I always argue that dressing up a little bit while still staying comfortable is a better way. You feel more confident and less sloppy so you can do your best.

TOMS will probably be my shoe of choice next week becuase they are so comfortable. It feels like you aren't wearing any shoes at all.
These are $55 on TOMS.com

Jeans are always comfortable and I like Old Navy's the best. But my "comfy pants" will always be tights and a skirt. Don't ask why it's just how I roll.

It's chilly so wear a sweater! There's nothing quite as comfy as a soft sweater.
This is definitely on my wishlist for after the holiday season when things go on sale. Gap's Cashmere dolman sweater is $128, but it would be worth every penny. It looks so comfortable and cashmere is the best hands down.

Fashion Magazines: an amateur's critique part two

This entry is all about my favorite magazine Glamour. This might come as a surprise to many, but Vogue is not my favorite. I love it a lot because of their unparalleled editorials and photography and their writing is fantastic, but I'm not compelled to read it like I am compelled to read Glamour. It's the content and the design. Glamour has embraced alternative short forms to tell stories that make you want to read their longer stories. Vogue has a demographic that likes its current style, but I am not a member of it. I love reading Glamour, but of course there's no fashion coverage like Vogue.

Here's an example of Glamour's inside page design which makes for a more compelling read.

Another reason why I love Glamour so very much is their use of real sized models. They have paved the way the past few years for models like Crystal Renn and just normal women showing their real curves. It's encouraging.

I really want to work there one day. And I'm going to stop this before I ramble on.

Fashion Magazines: an amateur's critique part one

So one of the classes I'm taking now is newspaper design. It is a very challenging class, but I've learned so much. Right now we're really focusing on page layout for newspapers (obviously), but we have ventured into magazines. I want to work for a fashion magazine one day so I thought I'd take a look at some of favorites and their designs. I am no expert, but this is my blog so I can pretend I know what I'm talking about.

Fight of the Fabulous:
British Vogue v. American Vogue
You can ALWAYS tell the difference between American and European magazines, not just because of the price. The design and content are dramatically different. Americans are so much more conservative when it comes to both. I don't mind conservative content so much, but design I always like pushing the limits.

British Vogue is my favorite hands down. It's super posh and it works. The design on the cover is crazy compared to ours. I went through a phase were I bought a british Vogue every month for a couple of months (and was super broke) and this is my favorite cover. Inside the issue was artsy as well. The reverse type on Kate's legs is brilliant, though I didn't know the technical term till now. I also love that they use some celebrities, but mostly models. Models say fashion to me and, well, to most of Europe. Celebrities say fashion to America for some reason and that's why you see them on American covers.

American Vogue:
Most of the covers look the same. There I said it. I hate criticizing my bible, but what can I say. Luckily the name speaks for itself otherwise the magazine would be in trouble. Inside they have been updating the layouts which I love and I am noticing they are taking some hints from their younger sister across the pond. I know because I've been reading Vogue for 6 years (to put that into perspective that's half of my being able to read life) so I think I know this magazine well for my age. But some of the covers are positively snooze worthy, it's better than say Lucky or InStyle where they only use a solid color background (lord I hope this bashing doesn't come back to haunt me oh well), but play with fonts more Vogue please?? At least they change their color scheme....

Here's my favorite cover and the first issue of the magazine (which I still have) September 2004

This is a super wordy post so I've decided to make it into a series of entries. Look for part 2 soon!

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2010 Recap

Last night I watched the VS fashion show. It was it's normal over the top self. I liked the themes this year, but I missed my favorite faces like Gisele Bundchen and Miranda Kerr, but I like all the current angels. It seems like they're all dating rockstars. Oh the perks of being a tall curvy model.

This was an interesting theme as well I loved the song they played.

Karolina Kurkova is my favorite Angel of all time because she's from the Czech Republic like my ancestors, but all jokes aside this look is kind of strange. I'm not a sports fan I guess. This was probably my least favorite theme.

I really liked Katy Perry's performance as well. Her new song Firework is super cute.
